Sponsorship of the Cheltenham Swimming Water Polo Club

The Bigger Printing Company is thrilled to announce its sponsorship of the Cheltenham Swimming Water Polo Club (CSWPC). CSWPC currently run three senior men’s teams, a women’s team and junior squads at all age levels. The senior men’s 1st team are the current British Champions, and will be starting to defend their title Saturday 17th January against Lancaster City at GL1 Leisure Centre.

Since 1895, Cheltenham has been the home of a top Water Polo team and this strong tradition continues to this day with players from as long ago as the 1950s continuing to be actively involved with the club. Last year, Cheltenham beat the City of Manchester 12-11 after a dramatic penalty shoot-out to win their first British Gas Men’s Water Polo Championships title (click here to read a full match report).

Water Polo is an incredibly physical sport and it is regarded as one of the most demanding of all team games. Each team is allowed to have seven players in the water at any one time (six outfield players and a goal keeper). Players are not allowed to touch the bottom of the pool and must tread water the entire time. Players can move the ball by throwing it to a team mate or swimming while pushing the ball in front of them. They can only hold the ball with one hand, other than the goalkeeper who is allowed to use both hands. A match is divided into quarters; each of the four quarters is eight minutes long. There are goals at each end of the pool and the winner is the team that scores most goals by getting the ball between the posts.

Bigger Printing will be providing all of the large format printing requirements for the club, including large PVC banners for Saturday’s final which will be positioned pool-side and behind the goals. Members of Bigger Printing’s team will be present at Saturday’s final (17th January), supporting the club. A junior demonstration game starts at 5:15pm, with the senior men’s finals starting at 6:30pm, at GL1 Leisure Centre. This game is the first of six group stage games, three home then three away. The winner from these games then progress to the simi-finals.
